01/98 subjects we would like Bollywood to make more films on

The Bollywood film industry is known for its lovey-dovey films and larger than life dramas. But every once in a while the audience gets tired of watching the hero and heroine dance around a tree, or watching films that make no sense. The audience is evolving and it's time that Bollywood does too. There is a much greater demand for strong content-driven films. So, here are 8 subjects on which more films need to be made in Bollywood. by Alisha Alam

02/9Sexual harassment

India has one of the largest populations in the world. And out of this huge population, a multitude of people have to face sexual harassment. More often than not it is just written off. But if there were more films made on this subject, people would probably then take it more seriously. A good example here would be the Arjun Kapoor-Chitrangada Singh starrer 'Inkaar'. Although it failed to impress at the box-office, it got the audience thinking about the issue. by Alisha Alam

03/9Rape

Another topic that needs to be addressed in our country is the topic of rape. With films like 'B.A.Pass' that focus solely on this topic, the audience could get a much wider idea of how violent and horrific this crime really is. The film didn't fare well at the box office, but it certainly left a mark in our hearts. by Alisha Alam

04/9Depression

It's a known fact that the subject of depression is pretty much considered a taboo in the Indian society. People suffering from depression often have to live with the condition all their lives; which is why it would be of great help if more films like the Alia Bhatt-Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Dear Zindagi' were made. Not only did the film highlight the topic of depression, it also portrayed how one can get help to improve their mental health. by Alisha Alam

05/9Mental illness

Films like 'Barfi' and 'Taare Zameen Par' turned out to be blockbuster films. Not only were the films loved by the audience, they also targetted a very important topic that needs to be addressed; the topic of mental illness. While in 'Barfi' the topic of autism was highlighted, 'Taare Zameen Par' highlighted dyslexia. These films helped open the minds of the audience and gave them a different perspective on mental illness. by Alisha Alam

06/9Obesity

It is shocking that there are no Bollywood films that address the issue of eating disorders. India happens to be among the top five countries to have the most obese population. The best way to help people understand these disorders is to make strong content-driven films on them. We certainly hope we'll get to see one soon. by Alisha Alam

07/9Homosexuality

Ok, let's face it. Throughout the years all Bollywood has done is make a mockery out of homosexual characters in films. It was only recently that films like 'Aligarh' and 'Kapoor and Sons' were made which properly highlighted what it was like to be a homosexual individual in the Indian society. Maybe, if more films were to be made on this topic, there would be better recognition towards the LGBT community in our country. by Alisha Alam

08/9Rural-based films

Radhika Apte starrer 'Parched' gave us goosebumps. The film perfectly portrayed what it was like to be a woman belonging to a conservative community in rural India. Being an urban audience, people are hardly aware of the issues that the rural part of India has to face. So yes, we need more films to be made on rural India. by Alisha Alam

09/9Science-Fiction

Don't you ever wonder what it would be like if Bollywood could come up with something as brilliant as Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'? Although, Shah Rukh Khan gave us 'Ra.One', we would still love to see more films based on science-fiction. The film didn't do well at the box office, but it opened up the possibility of sci-fi in Bollywood and we couldn't be happier about it. by Alisha Alam
