Now there’s news that the film is officially out of the race for the top honour
Recently it was announced that Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Newton’ had been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category. After the news broke out, the Indian audience went gaga all over it. But now there’s news that the film is officially out of the race for the top honour. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday announced that nine features will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 90th Academy Awards, according to the official website of the Oscars.

‘Newton’ is based on the story of a bureaucrat who is trying to conduct a free and fair election against all odds in a Naxal area in rural India. Director Amit V. Masurkar had earlier said, “I’m very grateful to the committee for choosing ‘Newton’.” He had further continued, “We are in the theatres today and this announcement will help in making more people watch the film. After all, this is a film we made for India.” Stay tuned for more updates.
