The first Indian citizen to enter space, Rakesh Sharma was aboard the Soviet rocket Soyuz T-11 that blasted off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic in April 1984. And now, after 34 years later, Bollywood plans on remembering him with a biopic that will see Aamir Khan play the lead.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Siddharth Roy Kapur plans on to make a film on Rakesh Sharma and has approached Aamir to play the role. A source close to the tabloid quoted, "Sid had approached Aamir with the script of his last film and this time too he went straight to him. The 2018 film will be made under his newly-launched banner RK Films (Roy Kapur Films). It will be directed by Mahesh Mathai."

While there is no confirmation on the same from the makers, apparently the film is to be titled 'Salute'. Aamir will co-produce the film along with Siddharth, and the film is most likely to release in 2018.

It will be interesting to see Aamir play Rakesh Sharma as the actor is known to transform and immerse himself in the skin of the character. After 'Dangal' this is the second biopic that Aamir has signed on in the recent times.
