On Wednesday, a photo of an Afghan refugee went viral on the Internet. Initially, the image was thought to be a look of Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's from his upcoming film 'Thugs Of Hindostan'. Many media outlets published stories about his "new look" from the film. They even went as far as to praise his makeup artists and costume designers for giving him such an authentic look in the film. They made statements like, “our jaws are still on the floor”, “the man looks completely unrecognizable”, and “the make-up artists completely take the cake with this one”, wondering how the actor looks completely unrecognisable.

But now it has been revealed that this was indeed fake news. The man in the picture is not renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan. He is, in fact, an Afghan refugee whose picture was captured by famed photographer Steve McCurry, who originally shared this image on his Instagram account on January 27, 2017. “I made this portrait of Shabuz, age 68, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan. Many Afghans use only one name,” McCurry had written in the image caption on Instagram. The uncanny resemblance between the man and the star seem to have misled his fans. Well, we wonder what Amitabh has to say about this. Stay tuned for more updates.
