After Tamil Nadu, will Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have no film releases this month?

After Tamil Nadu now even theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will witness no new movie releases as the Joint Action Committee of South Indian Film Producers Council has announced its indefinite protest against Digital Service Providers.


Film producers are demanding reduction of Virtual Print Fee (VPF) charged by Digital Service Providers (DSPs) on the films releasing in South India. Producers and distributors have complained that the service providers are charging exorbitant rates for the projection of digital content. On Thursday, a meeting was held between the two parties in Hyderabad where they decided that no movies will be released from March 2.


Producer Suresh Babu said, “Currently the discussions are on and they are about to reach an agreement over the rates in the coming days. The theatres are screening too many commercials which are a disturbance to the audience. He further stated that the same issue will be looked into.”


In Hyderabad, many single-screen theatres remain closed today as per the announcement. Also, the Tamil film industry went on strike from March 1 after multiple negotiations with Digital Service Providers fail.
