Akshay Kumar defends the stalking sequence in 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha'

Akshay Kumar's latest, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is being widely lauded for taking on a lesser-talked about the topic of open defecation and lack of hygiene in the country. However, it was post the release of the song 'Hans Mat Pagli' that the makers were bashed for glorifying stalking in the film. The song showed Akshay's character, Keshav, following Bhumi's character, Jaya around in a bid to take her picture without her knowledge.

When at a recent press interaction asked about the criticism brought on by the song, Akshay justified it saying that the song is an instrumental part of Keshav's character transformation in the film.

Akshay said, "It is just a character, and that’s it. In films there are many things that are shown, here my character, Keshav, was trying to take a photo of Bhumi’s character, Jaya. This is wrong, but I can’t show all the good things only, right?"

Anupam Kher, who too was present at the interaction said, "To show good in the character, sometimes you have to show the bad too, the transformation is very important. The character becomes completely different by the end of the film." Ending the interaction, all of the actors present condemned stalking.


Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' is all set to release on August 11.
