Alia Bhatt shoulders Kalpana Lajmi’s hospital bills

Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi has been battling kidney cancer and was rushed to the hospital earlier this week as her condition worsened. The 61-year-old was taken to the hospital as she complained of feeling terribly weak. Kalpana has been undergoing dialysis treatment every week and is reportedly overwhelmed by the financial support that she has received from the film industry. And while there are a lot of celebrities who are shouldering her expenses, Alia Bhatt and mother Soni Razdan are shouldering most of it.

A source said, “Kalpana’s medical bills, which come to about Rs 2.5 lakh a week for four dialysis that she undergoes, are borne entirely by Soni and her daughter Alia. Soni is Kalpana’s closest friend, and she’s been monitoring the funds for the treatment. Every time the bills pile up, Soni informs Alia, who pays them".

The young actress has apparently grown up around Kalpana and hence she doesn't want the world knowing about her contributions. The source added, "She would be very upset and embarrassed to know this has been let out. But it’s important to let Kalpana’s well-wishers know that only one 24-year-old girl is shouldering her medical bills, and it’s about time others came forward to do their bit. Alia and Soni are valiantly pushing on with Kalpana’s medical care. But more people need to come forward with financial help. Right now it’s just Alia".
