'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' to get a sequel after 12 years: New cast announced

Back in 2007, when Bhool Bhulaiyaa hit theaters, not only did it make a mark for its unique genre of horror and comedy mashed up together, it also helped its lead actors, Vidya Balan and Akshay Kumar safeguard their position in the industry, with both the actors seeing a huge addition in their already large fan bases. The film not only made an impact in the box office, but it also happens to be one of the few films of today's time’s that are fondly remembered.

If you were one of the many people who couldn’t have enough it, there is good in store for you. The film is set to get it own sequel, 12 long years later. A tad long a wait, isn’t it? But all’s that ends well.

T-series chairman and managing director, in a statement to a daily tabloid, confirmed about giving a nod to the film’s sequel. The film producer/music producer is currently working on the making of 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' and 'Chupke Chupke' remakes. 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' will see Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday in lead roles, and 'Chupke Chupke' will see Rajkumar Rao reprise Dharmendra’s role.

“Bhushan wanted to make a part 2 of Bhool Bhulaiyaa for a while now and has cracked an idea with Farhad Samji, who will be writing and directing the film. It is in the development stage and will feature a fresh cast. Once the final script is locked, the team will kick off casting and other pre-production formalities,” a source told the tabloid.

The production house registered the title 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' only a few weeks back. While Akshay will be seen as the lead in the sequel as well, Kiara Advani will be the new female lead for the sequel. In the sequel, Akshay portraying the role of a man possessed with a transgender ghost.

The original 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' was an official Hindi remake of the 2005 Tamil movie 'Chandramukhi'. Starring Rajinikanth, the movie was, in turn, a remake of Mohanlal and Shobhana’s 1993 Malayalam movie 'Manichitrathazu.'

On the work front, Akshay is currently working on 'Laxmi Bomb', also a horror comedy, a remake of the Tamil movie 'Kanchana.' Kiara Advani is promoting her upcoming film, Kabir Khan which is slated to release on 21st June.
