The CBFC (Censor Board for Film Certification) has laid down a new guideline for Bollywood movie makers. No longer can filmmakers display cell phone numbers on screen without providing the Censor Board with an NOC beforehand clarifying whether the number in being owned by a user and if yes, the user has no objection to his or her number being flashed across the screen.

“You can no longer simply rattle off a cell number on screen. You must provide proof that the number belongs to someone known and that person has given his or her consent for the number to be used,” revealed a source from the CBFC. The reason behind this new diktat is the CBFC’s attempt to stop the harassment faced by people after knowingly or unknowingly their number is used in the process of filmmaking. Makers might frivolously throw the number thinking they are mere digits but what they might not realise is that the number may genuinely belong to someone.

Well, we can’t say one can blame the CBFC for this one.
