Just a week before its release, Emraan Hashmi’s film name has been changed to a brand new one. The title of the film will now be called ‘Why Cheat India.’ The unforeseen and untimely changed took place because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) took objection to the title, deeming it to be misleading.

The film’s producers, Ellipsis Entertainment, Emraan Hashmi Films, and T-series Films confirmed the news in a statement, “The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer, and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India.”

The film was initially slated to release on the Republic Day weekend along with Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and the Bal Thackeray biopic. But to avoid a clash at the box office, the film will now be releasing on January 18.

Cheat India, or Why Cheat India, we’re definitely catching this film on the big screen. Are you?
