During the promotions of ‘Raees’, the production team came up with a promotional strategy which was ‘Raees By Rail’. As a part of the strategy, Shah Rukh Khan was to go on a cross-country trip and promote the film at each of his halts. He boarded an August Kranti Express from Mumbai and was to promote ‘Raees’ across stations until the train reached its designated destination – Delhi. However, as the news about Shah Rukh’s travel started making rounds, many of his fans across thronged the stations just to get a glimpse of the star.

While the strategy was catching up with Shah Rukh’s many fans, during a halt in Vadodara the platform was overcrowded which further led to a stampede. Fahreed Khan Pathan, a local resident, had come to the station to see his niece who was onboard the same train. However, due to the crowd, Fahreed suffered a heart attack and lost his life.

Recently, Shah Rukh was summoned by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Vadodara over the death of Fahreed Khan Pathan. The actor was asked to record his statement for the same. However, Justice J B Pardiwala of the Gujarat High Court stayed the summon issued by the Vadodara GRP. The actor’s lawyer, Salil Thakore argued that such summons under CrPC cannot be issued to a person not staying within the limits of the police station. After hearing his argument, the court stayed the summon and has now adjourned a hearing on August 4.
