The king of romance opens up about his idea of romance on a train
When I was younger and even now, I find trains utterly romantic. I never romanced on a train, because I never had the opportunity to. But having read books and poetry, I find the rhythm of a train very romantic. I think it's the most romantic place. In movies it is time bound, we are moving from one place to another, or either it is stationary, sometimes we even use a green screen. But I really feel it can be utterly romantic to be on a train. About romance, I think the times have changed a lot in terms of the language. Romance hasn't changed. I think people have less time. I also think that this whole rightly-so push for equality thing creates more buddy like feeling between men and women. When you are buddies, you can't romance. There is a whole new wave that I notice with youngsters. Romance has to have a little formality. Whether it's tehzeeb, going down on your knees, whether it is saying couplets in praise of a girl. I am from that school, I still believe in it.
When asked if 'Pyaar Dosti Hain'
It must be I am sure, for those it works. I don't believe in everything that I do. My daughter calls me bro. I want to ask her, and everyone, do they say it to other boys also? I am not saying it's wrong, it's really cool. Romance requires a little bit of formality, space, and enjoyment. From the days of walking on the beach holding hands, to under starlit night, to full moon nights. All the connotation of romance needs time and formality. It can't be that you're in beach shorts and say 'chal ek chakkar laga k aate hai bro'. It can't work like that. I think I am too old for a romantic film now. Maybe the youngsters will have to find language which is formal but still of today's age and time.
