On Tuesday, the makers of 'Kalank' unveiled the teaser trailer of the much-awaited film and let's just say the audience went gaga all over it. The teaser gave us a glimpse into each character's life and also hinted at the storyline of the film. The film features a stellar cast that includes Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Sanjay Dutt. However, did you know that this period drama was originally supposed to have a completely different cast?

Yes, Karan Johar revealed in his book that the film was actually conceptualised 15 years ago and back then it was supposed to star Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. “When my father was alive, I was writing a love story set in pre-partition times. But the canvas was too large, it was supposed to have Shah Rukh, Ajay, Rani and Kajol. It was about homes, and it had a Hindu-Muslim angle. It was a very strong subject, and would be called 'Kalank',” Karan wrote.

At the teaser trailer launch of the film, Karan said, "'Kalank' is a movie that is close to my heart and my father’s since 2003 and it’s been on my mind since then. It was difficult without him to touch this film and one day I just decided to do it. I must say it’s been possible because of Sajid Nadiadwala and Vijay Singh. It’s been a pleasure and I’m looking at working on more films with him in future.”

Helmed by Abhishek Varma, the film is a love story set in the 1940s India. The teaser has turned out to be a huge success and has already garnered more than 14 million views on YouTube. Well, with such a stellar cast, we hardly expect anything less. The film is all set to hit the theatres in April. Stay tuned for more updates.
