In the past few years, certain Bollywood films have faced a backlash from groups and Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Lagaan' and 'Jodhaa Akbar' were amongst those few that did. However, the filmmaker is on to make his next period drama on commander Sadashivrao Bhau who was the grandson of Bajirao and the film might just go on to face controversies like his previous two in the same genre. And while Arjun Kapoor has been locked in as lead to play the role, Ashutosh seems to be pursuing Sanjay Dutt to play a role in the film too.

Ashutosh wants Sanjay to essay the role of the Afghan King Ahmedshah Abdali and a source close to the film said Sanjay is being doubly sure about the fact the film should be a politically correct one. The source said, “Abdali was an invader. He defeated the Marathas in the third Battle of Panipat in 1761 C.E, which became a turning point in India’s history. So, Sanjay has been in repeated meetings with Ashutosh to ensure that the film does get into controversies.”

Ajay Devgn incidentally is also making a film on a Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare where he himself will essay the lead role. He is ensuring that the script does not distort history in any way.
