Kabir Khan: I've known Shah Rukh for a long time and our equation hasn't changed at all

Kabir Khan, the helmer of Salman Khan starrer 'Tubelight', has been in the news for not only the film but also for a mini-series that he will be making in collaboration with Amazon Prime Videos. 'Tubelight' is all set for an Eid release this year, and the promotions of the film have started already.
The filmmaker is known for taking about societal issues and has a contemporary approach towards them. With most of his films dealing with issues related to society, war, and politics, Kabir likes to believe that politics is no longer a taboo in Hindi movies.
Talking to PTI, Kabir said, "When I used to watch Bollywood films, I would struggle with the fact that our cinema was set in La La Land, with no social or political context. So I decided that whenever I make a film, I'll try to put some context about what's happening."
Set against the backdrop of 1962 Indo-Sino war, 'Tubelight' is a story of an Indian man who falls in love with a woman from Chinese played by Chinese actress Zhu Zhu. What makes the film even more interesting is the fact that Shah Rukh Khan has a cameo appearance in 'Tubelight'.
It is after a long time that Salman and Shah Rukh will be seen on the 70mm screen together. Talking about Shah Rukh's cameo in the film, Kabir said, "I've known Shah Rukh for a long time and the equation with him hasn't changed at all. It's still fun. I was actually very close friends with Gauri, his wife, so we've always been very warm and friendly. When I took the idea of this cameo in 'Tubelight' to him, he readily agreed. I didn't have to convince him at all."
He further adds, "Trust me, it's a great cameo and a fantastic character. Shah Rukh is someone I've always looked up to as a senior. He is also probably the most well read person in the industry."
Kabir's previous films - 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Ek Tha Tiger' with Salman have worked wonderfully at the Box Office. And 'Tubelight' is hopefully going to be no different!
