Film ‘Indian’ (‘Hindustan’) was a super-hit film of Shankar which starred Kamal Haasan and Manisha Koirala, now twenty-two years later the filmmaker is planning to make a sequel on the film, as per reports, and the film is set to be titled ‘Indian 2’. The Hindi remake is likely to be called ‘Hindustani 2’. It is also being said that the filmmaker has met Ajay Devgn.

A source said, “He wants Ajay to play a top cop in the sequel.” No other details were available at the time of going to press. Whether Ajay bites the bait or not remains to be seen. However, just the fact that Shankar is said to have given him a narration is good news.

The source further added, “‘Indian’, which released in 1996, saw Kamal Haasan in a double role. Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar also starred in the Tamil film, which was released in Hindi as Hindustani. The plot revolved around an ex-freedom fighter who turns vigilante and fights against corruption, while his son is involved in nefarious activities.”

The source also said, “Meanwhile, Shankar’s ambitious project ‘2.0,’ which is the sequel of ‘Endhiran/Robot’ (2010) and stars Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, is yet to get its release date. The movie won’t hit the silver screen on April 27 as reported earlier. The magnum opus requires a lot of work as it involves extensive VFX. That is the reason the movie has been deferred repeatedly. It was earlier marked to be the big-ticket movie during the Diwali weekend in 2017. It was then moved to Republic Day this year and later rescheduled to April 27. The new date is yet to be announced by the makers.”
