Kangana Ranaut: I realised there was so much stigma attached to being different

Kangana Ranaut is all set to yet again reunite with her on-screen partner, Rajkummar Rao with her next, 'Mental Hai Kya'. The film will go on floors this month and the makers have already created a buzz around the film, owing to the quirky posters of the lead stars. The film is a psychological thriller and will be directed by Prakash Kovelamudi.

Talking about the film to a leading daily, Kangana said, “The way my life unfolded in the past few years, I realised there was so much stigma attached to being different. ‘Mental’ or ‘psycho’ were the terms used to shame me, but these can’t be used casually as swear words. When this script came along, I knew I had to do it to break the stigma around it. High time we made individuality aspirational.” Kangana added, “We won’t show people as pitiable, sympathy seeking characters. We’ll portray the issue with sensitivity. The film takes a stand against equating individuality with madness.”

Kangana has teamed up with Ekta Kapoor earlier too and has worked with Rajkummar Rao in the super-hit film, 'Queen' as well. She agreed that it will not be an easy shoot, as all three of them are strong-headed and opinionated. But that's what makes a good movie, right? “We are like-minded people who know it’s not going to hunky-dory. I am not a sulk-pot. That’s how Raj and I have come this far in life. Strong opinions don’t mean either of us is going to act like we know it all,” Kangana concluded.
