Speaking at the WeUnite conference, Katrina Kaif raised her concerns against marital rape, gender inequality, and atrocities that women face in the society
Speaking at the WeUnite conference, Katrina Kaif raised her concerns against marital rape. The conference marked the UN Women’s partnership with the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Bollywood actress took on to the stage with a powerful message against issues faced by women. She said that women should speak up for themselves adding that women should not silently face atrocities.

Talking about the problems faced by women, Katrina said, “I know of educated women, who remain silent in the face of violence because they are afraid to confront societal norms and have fingers pointed in their direction. This happens especially when the majority of our society fails to recognise marital rape as a crime.” Adding to this she said, “I would urge more women to speak up. It is not okay to feel inferior or weak because we are not the weaker sex by any stretch of the imagination.”

Katrina made a lot of sense when she stated that societal pressure is a reason that women don't open up about the problems they face. “The world has largely been led by patriarchal societies and women have, through the years, largely remained quiet in the face of atrocities rather than speak out against them. On a daily basis there are shocking stories about the violent crimes made against women. Yet, I can only imagine how many other crimes against women in India go unreported,” said she.

Katrina then moved on to address gender inequality, and opined, “India had a woman as the head of state, way before the United kingdom, a feat United states of America has not managed to achieve as of yet. Which is why it is surprising to hear about gender inequality in India. And sadly we do.”

Well, the actress made a lot of sense when she spoke about how women have been suffering for the longest time now. She also put forward valid facts as she spoke about the above issues.
