Filmmaker Karan Johar recently opened up and spoke about his sexuality for the first time. He expressed his fear about the consequences of him coming out and accepting his sexual orientation. His upcoming biography, ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ throws light on the difficulties and struggles that the filmmaker had to face through the different phases of his life. Talking about it the filmmaker said, "I, Karan Johar would not say the three words."

However, these comments made by Karan did not go down well with the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ activist Pallav Patankar slammed the filmmaker calling his comments ‘baseless’. He said, “If an uneducated person in a remote Indian village comes and tells me that they are scared of coming out, I’d take it, but this coming from somebody with a stature as big as Karan’s, I feel let down. He should be coming out as an empowered and powerful individual, and actually, make a difference for those helpless people living in villages. People who were earlier considering coming out will now sit and think twice, worried that a FIR might be involved — but this is baseless. You won’t be arrested for coming out."

However, the members of LGBTQ community further added that they will support Karan if he decides to come out and make sure he isn’t jailed for the same.
