On Monday when a group of students were performing the ‘Ghoomar’ song from the film ‘Padmaavat’ a fringe Rajput group wrecked the campus of a private school in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district. It was the annual function of the St Paul’s School in Jaora, where the attack happened. The Karni Sena broke in when the students were singing and dancing from the elementary to the tunes of ‘Ghoomar’.

The Karni Sena and other groups do not want the film to release as it distorts history and the song ‘Ghoomar’ portrays queen Padmavati as a courtesan, saying royal women never performed the traditional folk dance of Rajasthan. An order can been issued to ban the song on Karni Sena’s request.

The fringe group vandalized and also threatened the administration, said Jaora sub-divisional police officer said, “The activists also misbehaved with parents and teachers. They broke chairs and the stage. Four people were detained after police reached the school. We have registered a case against them.”
