Mahira Khan: I want to promote my film, it is my right!

The unfortunate Uri attacks led to a whole new controversy after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena forbade Pakistani actors from working in the Indian film industry. As a consequence, actors like Fawad Khan and Ali Zafar had to pack their bags and go back to Pakistan. The makers of the movies starring these actors heaved a sigh of relief after MNS finally allowed the release of the films which had already been completed or were on the verge of completion. However, Fawad Khan was still not a part of 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' promotions and his part was cut short in the film’s trailers and songs.

And now that Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited ‘Raees’ is nearing its release, the film’s leading lady Mahira Khan who is from Pakistan has met the same fate. Although the actress was given a major share in the movie’s trailer and songs, she has not been able to promote the film in India. Disheartened by this Mahira openly expressed her hurt in a recent interview with a leading Pakistani daily.

The actress said, “Yes I’m grateful, but it’s something I have worked for! Why shouldn’t I feel it? Just because I’m an actor? Just because it’s a film? Just because it seems like fluff? I also want to promote the film. I also want to be in an interview with Shah Rukh Khan talking about it. Why not? Why is it I get told that that’s asking for too much? It isn’t! It is my right. This was also my film."

Mahira is currently promoting the film in Dubai and is doing so individually. SRK, on the other hand, is busy promoting the film with his ‘Raees’ co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui through press conferences and even interacting with his fans in the malls of Dubai.

‘Raees’ will hit the theatres on 25th January.
