Deepika Padukone mesmerized everyone when she made her big Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in 'Om Shanti Om'. It was the perfect platform to begin her career in the film industry and she was launched with a lot of show and pomp. Farah Khan made sure that Deepika looked incredible in each frame of the film. And of course, Deepika played the role of the sweet, classic Shanti to perfection and shot to fame post the movie’s success.

Deepika initially caught Farah's attention when Farah saw her in Himesh Reshammiya‘s music video 'Naam Hai Tera Tera', and the rest, as they say, is history. Anyway, much before Farah spotted her in that song there was someone else who recommended her name. That someone happens to be Malaika Arora Khan! Malaika met Farah at a Wendell Rodricks fashion show many years ago where she put in a good word for Deepika. Wendell spoke about this with a leading magazine.

"I showed a collection called Isadora at a fashion show. It was a game changer for Deepika. Director Farah Khan asked my friend Malaika to suggest a new model to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan for her new film. ‘Om Shanti Om’ did not have a working title at the time. I suggested Deepika, who was barely two years into modeling. I made her open the show and told Malaika that the first girl I was sending out was the one I recommend. Malaika liked her, conveyed the same to Farah and a screen test was done. The rest is history," quoted Wendell.

Well, who knew that if it was not for Malaika, Bolywood might have missed out on one of the greatest actresses who have stepped foot into the industry.
