Earlier there were reports that suggest filmmaker Nikkhil Advani had plans to make a film on Operation Blue Star. Nikkhil, known for his penchant for making films on topics of concern, however, has now dropped the idea as it is "too controversial."

Operation Blue Star remains a topic of much discussion as it is historic as well is a landmark event which resulted in the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The 1984 operation was ordered by Indira Gandhi in a move to eradicate Sikh militants amassing weapons in the Harmandir Sahib Complex (Golden Temple).

Talking to a news agency, Nikkhil said, "Every single person I know from Punjab said I won't be able to live in this country [if I made the film]." Further adding that when he shared the idea with Gippy Grewal, the actor was too scared to even hear him out.

Also, dismissing the fact that he approached Akshay Kumar for the film, Nikkhil concluded, "It's an event that should be documented. But it's too controversial."
