Looks like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ is still in trouble as the Allahabad High Court has issued a scorn notice to Prasoon Joshi the chairman of CBFC in the context with the release of ‘Padmaavat’. The Lucknow bench of the court has granted three weeks time to the chairman of CBFC Prasoon Joshi to respond to the notice. The next hearing has been fixed for the week beginning February 12.

Earlier also Kamta Prasad Singhal had submitted a Public Interest Litigation seeking the ban on the release of the film. A bench of Justice Mahendra Dayal has passed the order on the petition filed by him. The petition was filed as he felt that it promoted Sati, which is an offense.

A bench of Justice Mahendra Dayal passed the order on the petition filed by Kamta Prasad Singhal, who had submitted that he had earlier filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the ban on the release of the movie because it promoted Sati, which is an offense. After hearing the PIL, the court had on November 9, 2017, dismissed the petition but, simultaneously, it had permitted the petitioner to move his grievance through a representation to the CBFC. As the three weeks time given to Prasoon Joshi had expired so the High Court issued contempt notice to Parsoon Joshi.

The story of Rani Padmavati has a ritual called Jauhar, it’s a ritual where women jump into the fire to save their honour and the practice of Sati is not likely to be part of the narrative. Sati was the practice of women sacrificing themselves at the pyres of their dead husband.

‘Padmaavat’ is now set to release on 24th January 2018. It stars Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.
