Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has stated that the controversial 'Padmavati' was “hurting sentiments” and hence will not be screened in poll-bound states until the complete issue was solved. Politician and actor Shatrughan Sinha too joined the row surrounding the movie and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi as also Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani over their silences regarding the issue.

There have been several protests from Rajput organisations and other groups regarding the movie. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani became the fourth Chief Minister of a BJP ruled state after Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, Rajasthan’s Vasundhara Raje, Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan to oppose the film. Days back he even tweeted saying, “We believe in freedom of speech and expression but any foul play with our great culture is not tolerated.”

Meanwhile, Rajput Karni Sena's fight isn't against the film but the misrepresentation of facts in the movie. They have resorted to even threatening director Sanjay Leela Bhansali as also Deepika Padukone for their life. The controversy over 'Padmavati' has reached the portals of the Parliament as a house panel sought a report on the film from the I&B ministry and the censor board. The matter has now been taken up by a Lok Sabha panel.
