Controversy's favourite child, Pahlaj Nihalani, once again found himself in the eye of the storm as he engaged in a war of words with actress Shruti Seth.

Recently, during the on-going 70th Cannes Film Festival, Pahlaj Nihalani had commented that there should be proper steps taken to stop filmmakers from taking their work to international film festivals without a proper CBFC certificate.

The CBFC chief said, "This has been going on for a very long time, unchecked. Perhaps earlier no action was taken against producers and directors who zipped off to exotic locations for international film festivals without a censor certification in pursuit of international fame for Indian cinema. Let me tell all filmmakers who do this: you can’t do this. You can’t take your film to festivals without censor certification.”

Explaining this further, Nihalani added, "I know that screenings at film festivals favour uncensored content. But that’s not allowed in India. For any film to be screened on any platform and in any format without a censor certificate, a filmmaker needs special permission from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. We’ve come to know that Indian filmmakers simply sneak off with their films to film festivals without a censor certificate or a special permission.”

However, these statements made by Pahlaj found no favour with the fraternity. In fact, actress Shruti Seth took to her Twitter account to slam the CBFC chief and asked him to not take himself so seriously.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Oh please! You are not a law making body. Stop taking yourself so seriously <a href="https://twitter.com/NihalaniPahlaj">@NihalaniPahlaj</a> <a href="https://t.co/7GmzqhVK9l">https://t.co/7GmzqhVK9l</a></p>&mdash; Shruti Seth (@SethShruti) <a href="https://twitter.com/SethShruti/status/867239416128995328">May 24, 2017</a></blockquote>

Not the one to take things sitting down, Pahlaj replied that Shruti is not a Twitter nanny and is just trying to achieve fame!

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Nor are U a Twitter nanny. I am trying to highlight lapses in the system that I am concerned with. What are U trying to achieve out here? <a href="https://t.co/3buXI0O9t4">https://t.co/3buXI0O9t4</a></p>&mdash; Pahlaj Nihalani (@NihalaniPahlaj) <a href="https://twitter.com/NihalaniPahlaj/status/868524474974351360">May 27, 2017</a></blockquote>
