Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' was given a go-ahead by the Supreme Court, but protests against the film have still not ended. Now, the governments of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have appealed to the Supreme Court against the film's release in the country. A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud agreed to hear on Tuesday the interim applications of both the states seeking modification of the apex court order allowing exhibition of the movie. The states have now claimed that section 6 of the Cinematograph Act allows them to stop any film from being exhibited on the ground of possible violation of the law.

Senior advocate Harish Salve who is representing the production house of the film opposed urgent hearing on any such interim applications. Not only had the apex court allowed a nationwide release of the film it had also prohibited other states from issuing any such notification or order banning the screening of the movie. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles and is slated to release on January 24. Stay tuned for more updates.
