Rani Mukerji's father Ram Mukerji passes away

Actress Rani Mukerji's father Ram Mukerji passed away this morning at 4 am at his residence. He was a director, producer, and screenwriter prominently in Hindi and Bengali cinema. The veteran filmmaker is survived by his wife Krishna Mukerji, daughter Rani and son Raja with their respective families. Although the exact cause of his death is yet to be known it’s been said that he was hale and hearty before he unexpectedly collapsed this morning. His body will be taken to his house - Janki Kutir at 10.30 am. The Cremation will take place at Vile Parle Pawan Hans at 2 pm.

The filmmaker has directed movies namely 'Raktanadir Dhara' (1994), 'Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag' (1993), 'Raktalekha' (1992), 'Ek Bar Mooskura Do' (1972), 'Leader' (1964), 'Hum Hindustani' (1960) to name a few. In the year 2011, the filmmaker had spoken to a leading daily and stated that Rani had cancelled all her plans that year to take care of him. He had said, "My daughter was very upset because I was not keeping well. But I am happy that I am perfectly fine now, and that my daughter has been able to concentrate on her work. I am blessed to have a daughter like Rani and I must say that I am a very proud father."
