Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, who was felicitated last year for completing 25 years in the industry at the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, was awarded the Phalke Best Critic award for her performance in ‘Maatr’ at the 148th Dadasaheb Phalke Jayanti celebration last night.

Elated by the honour, the actress said, “I had no clue I was getting the award. I was reading about Priyanka Chopra getting the award when I got their letter. I am glad that I waited for the right film and have got reviews saying I am top of the game. That kind of appreciation is better than people asking ‘why did she come back to do such a trashy film?’

Many have debated that the movie ‘Maatr’ and Sridevi’s upcoming movie ‘Mom’ share the same story line. Talking about it, Raveena asserted, “I have heard ‘Mom’ is very different from ‘Maatr’. ‘Mom’ is a courtroom drama and not a vendetta film and there are no comparisons.”

She further added, “I am proud that films like ‘Mom’ and ‘Pink’ are being made today and we are not only making commercial entertainers but picking up topics that are relevant and get people to think. It’s a great time for women in Indian cinema that we are getting to choose relevant films that talk about society.”

Raveena will next be seen in Onir’s upcoming romance drama ‘Shab’, which will hit the theatres on 30th June.
