Twinkle Khanna: I hope we can make sanitary pads tax-free
An actress, a wife, a mother, a writer, and now a producer - these are the many hats Twinkle Khanna dons! Hands down Twinkle has been successful in the many roles she took up in her life. And now as she makes her debut as a producer, Twinkle decided to make 'Padman' not with the intention to achieve Box Office numbers but to convey a message.

Twinkle reveals that her role "is to put the project together. I got Mr Arunuchalam Muruganantham on board. And now, I want to make sure we do the film efficiently. Which is why I was on the set.” Padman is about Arunachalam, who invented cheap sanitary pads for women in his village. The film features Akshay in the lead role with Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte for company in a film that hopes to shrug off the stigma around a topic considered taboo. Twinkle agrees, “People don’t really want to talk about sanitary pads. Men are hesitant to say ‘periods’. In that sense, I think 'Padman' will cater to a lot of people across the world."

With no intention to achieve Box Office numbers, Twinkle's real reason to produce the film is to axe the tax. "Eventually, I hope we can make sanitary pads tax-free. There is already a petition online asking for the same. Because these are things where there shouldn’t be any tax. They are necessities, not luxuries." adds Twinkle.

An online petition has been filed to urge the Government to waive the tax on sanitary napkins. Talking about the same, Twinkle said, "I think the release of 'Padman' would definitely push the petition through and I am going to positively work on that as well."

'Padman' starring Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte, and Sonam Kapoor has already gone on floors. The film draws inspiration from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham who found a way to make sanitary napkins affordable for women in his village.
