Ryan International School murder case: Accused juvenile to be tried as an adult

The 16 year old of Ryan International School has been accused of murdering Pradyuman Thakur, 7, in Haryana’s Bhondsi last month, will be tried as an adult, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Gurgaon ruled on Wednesday and said the accused will be produced before the sessions court on December 22.


The Juvenile Justice Board transferred the case to the senior court, under the revised Juvenile Justice Act, which allows minors to be tried as adults based on the nature of their crime. On the basis of lead-in assessment conducted on the teenager’s physical and mental capacity. The board heard both sides argument and said, “The teenager had sufficient mental and physical capacity to commit the offense alleged against him and that he had the adequate ability to understand the consequences of his acts”.


The order states that the “Juvenile himself stated before this board that he is physically and mentally fit and not suffering from any kind of disease,” and that “his IQ level shows that he is mentally fit, so it cannot be said that he did not know the consequences of acts alleged to be committed by him.”
