Saif Ali Khan on 'Kaalakaandi': If 'Padmavati' comes in, we will think of shifting our release date

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Padmavati' has been in the limelight ever since its inception. It was recently announced that the film's initial release date had been deferred from December 1. Now, this decision of theirs deeply impacted quite a few other films. Kapil Sharma's 'Firangi' released a week later than its original plan, Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha starrer 'Fukrey Returns' decided to come a week early and now there are rumours that it could also affect the release date of Saif Ali Khan's 'Kaalakaandi'.

Although the film is slated to release on January 12th, lead star Saif Ali Khan said there could be a change in the plan due to 'Padmavati's' release. Saif wants to avoid clashing with 'Padmavati' at the box-office. Speaking to a leading daily he said, "If 'Padmavati' comes in, we will think of shifting our release date. I hope we don't have to do that. 'Kaalakaandi' is a film I am proud of."

He also explained that he understands why filmmakers avoid a clash in release dates with their films. "It would have been nice to see 'Kaalakaandi' releasing with 'Padmavati', as it shows that we have a film industry, which makes different kinds of movies. Recently, we saw 'Secret Superstar' and 'Golmaal Again' releasing on the same day and both films did well. Personally, I feel it's a good time to have films releasing alongside one another. But filmmakers are wary about it and you need to take that into consideration."

Saif further added, "It's easy to think that people no longer want to see me in a film. But I don't do that. I get my confidence back every time, irrespective of whether my film works or not. I'll keep working and hopefully, things will fall into place." Currently, Saif and begum Kareena Kapoor Khan are busy preparing for the birthday celebrations of their little munchkin Taimur Ali Khan.
