Salman Khan may very well be one of the biggest superstars in the Bollywood film industry, but it's no secret that the actor has time and again made the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The actor was acquitted for the 2002 hit-and-run case against him. But in a turn of events, the Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear a plea filed by the Maharashtra Government challenging the star's acquittal in the case.

On July 5, 2016, the apex court had admitted the Maharashtra Government's plea challenging the Bombay High Court verdict in the case. In December 2015, the Bombay High Court had acquitted Salman of all criminal charges on account of lack of substantial evidence in the case. Earlier, on May 6, 2015, a sessions court had held him guilty in the case, but the actor had moved to the High Court, challenging the verdict.

The Bollywood actor was accused of running his Toyota Land Cruiser over people sleeping on a sidewalk, outside a bakery in Bandra on September 28, 2002. While one labourer was killed, four others were injured in the accident.
