Sanjay Leela Bhansali acquires the rights for 'Immortals of Meluha'?

According to reports, filmmaker Karan Johar had back in 2014 acquired the rights for an adaptation of Amish Tripathi's popular book, 'Immortals of Meluha'. In fact, it was believed that Karan Johar's much-discussed project, 'Shuddhi' was to be based on the book.

However, if the buzz is to be believed, Karan Johar's production house, Dharma Production's contract with Amish Tripathi expired recently, so they had no choice but to surrender the rights. As per reports, Karan's mentee's Alia and Varun were to star in 'Shuddhi', but there has been no news about the same.

And now if the buzz is to be believed, 'Padmavati' director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is keen to obtain rights for the same. While there has been no comment from either Karan Johar or Sanjay Leela Bhansali's end, a source close to the development revealed, "His contract with Karan expired recently, so Dharma had to surrender the rights to the book."

On the work front, Karan Johar is currently on a paternity break and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is busy with his magnum opus, 'Padmavati'.
