Shah Rukh Khan honoured with the Crystal Award for his leadership in championing children and women's rights

The World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting in Davos will commence later this month and this year for the 24th Annual Crystal Award, the organisers have decided to felicitate Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett and British musician Sir Elton John for their work in raising awareness for the refugee crisis and for the fight against HIV/AIDS respectively. But, wait, the list doesn't end just yet. They have also decided to honour Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan this year. For those not in the know, the Annual Crystal Awards celebrate the achievements of outstanding artists who have shown exemplary commitment to improving the state of the world.

Shah Rukh will be awarded for his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India. The actor had earlier said, "With victims of acid attacks I have had the privilege to witness the unparalleled courage and compassion that women are capable of. I have seen the transformative strength of goodness and the healing power of gentleness." The actor is the founder of the non‐profit Meer Foundation, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. He has also been responsible for the creation of specialized children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment.

The award ceremony will take place on Monday, January 22, 2018, and Shah Rukh, we're just going to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of you!
