Shah Rukh Khan opens up about the effect of his stardom on his family
Bollywood stars’ lives may often be led in the limelight; however, paparazzi now have also directed their attention to the star kids – to the extent that their concerned parents need to speak up against the issue.

In a viral video Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Suhana, 17, looked uncomfortable as she tried to hide her face from the relentless paparazzi. SRK later went on to request the media not to be so harsh towards the kids.

The actor opened up about the incident in a recent interview, saying, "This is the part of stardom that we all have accepted… I think everyone in today’s time and age is fair game. It isn’t just the celebrity kids. We have sold our souls for selfies."

He further added, "I think, initially, the kids started feeling awkward with all the paraphernalia. Every time I go out in a public place, I don’t take them with me. My wife doesn’t come, my children don’t come, I go to functions alone or I go after they’ve gone. With all due respect, I’m a star and I expect everyone to rush to me. I don’t expect that to happen to my family.”

To avoid such occasions, SRK made a few adjustments for his family, including sending his children abroad to study. “I sent them not because of the scrutiny, but because they were feeling awkward with all the attention they have,” Shah Rukh explained.

SRK revealed how he helps his children cope with the attention, saying, “I understand photographs (need) to be taken, I’ve explained to my kids that if photographers come, stand, do the picture and say, ‘Please can I go now?’ And they’ll listen to you.”

Shah Rukh said that he believes that fame is to be earned and has therefore inculcated into his children that ‘being photographed doesn’t make you important’.

Narrating how his older kids are very mature about his stardom, SRK said, “More often than not they’ll tell me how to behave with the paparazzi. They’ll say, ‘Papa, now don’t lose your temper.’”

However, while SRK’s older kids understand the extent of his stardom, his youngest AbRam still seems to be getting a handle on things. Therefore, when quizzed by his siblings about why so many people come to see ‘papa’ (SRK), AbRam’s adorable response was, “Because he is handsome!”
