A biopic on ace shuttler Saina Nehwal was in talks for quite some time now. According to grapevine, the role of the sports champion that was slated to be essayed by Shraddha Kapoor will now be played by Parineeti Chopra. This comes as a surprise to all, as Kapoor had even begun training for badminton to play the role of a sports person with perfection.

This latest news was confirmed by Bhushan Kumar, head of T-series. He said, “We want to wrap up Saina by this year-end for an early 2020 release, so going ahead with the project is a decision taken by mutual consent. We are glad Parineeti has come on board for the film. Saina has made every Indian proud and we can’t wait to take her story to the world in the year of the Olympics.”

According to sources, the recasting took place due to Shraddha’s busy schedule, due to which she had to drop out. Parineeti was elated to have bagged the role, in hindsight. When asked about how she felt being a part of the sports biopic, she said, “I was dying to do a sports-based film. It is a part of my personality as an actor that I have never explored, and I am so happy that I get to portray a strong and powerful girl like Saina. She has put our country on the world map, and I excited to put in all the training and hard work that comes with learning the game of Badminton and portraying Saina on screen.”

The biopic on Nehwal is being directed by filmmaker Amol Gupte and produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar.
