Siddharth Roy Kapur: Political biopics have now become radioactive

Considering the controversies that Madhur Bhandarkar's upcoming, 'Indu Sarkar' was mired in, Film and Television Producers Guild of India president, Siddharth Roy Kapur said that political biopics have now become radioactive.

When prodded further, Siddharth said, "It's unfortunately the environment that we are in at this point of time that most filmmakers are self-censoring when it comes to subjects that they pick to make a movie about because they are concerned about how it will finally be received when it goes to the CBFC for clearance.In that process, we might be really losing out on quite a few interesting stories that should be told, and I do hope that the environment changes."

The Guild president further said that he hopes that the appointment of Smriti Irani as Cabinet Minister for Information and Broadcasting, would bring about a change in the current scenario. Kapur added, "It's a very positive step because she's someone who understands the industry. I'm quite certain that we will see an easy and a more liberal view of film certification in the months to come."

As a producer, Siddharth's upcoming projects include, Aamir Khan-starrer biopic on astronaut Rakesh Sharma and a biopic based on the life of a man named Vijendra Singh who had lost his wife Leela in the Uttarakhand floods. When asked about the same he said, "It's a little early to talk about any of them at this point of time."
