On Monday, the Dubai police in a series of tweets revealed that Bollywood actress Sridevi's death was allegedly a result of accidental drowning as opposed to the speculated cardiac arrest. As per reports, the actress was found unconscious in her hotel room's bathroom in Dubai and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared brought dead. As soon as news of her cause of death started making the rounds, many media channels pounced on it as an opportunity to gain TRP's. They obsessively showed reports of her death and some went even as far as to character shame the actress for indulging in alcohol.

Following this, there was an uproar on social media, where people condemned the media channels for sensationalising the actress' death. The hashtag #NewsKiMaut began circulating on Twitter. And here's what some people tweeted:

"#NewsKiMaut let us respect Late Mrs. Sridevi ji and not do dramatic representations and raise questions about her character,"

"It's not just #NewsKiMaut but #HumanityKiMaut. Compassion is totally missing these days."

"I'm afraid that in a bid to beat the rest, some anchor might just decide to wear Sridevi's face, fill up a bath up, get drunk, fall, drown and die on camera while the newsroom plays it LIVE #NewsKiMaut"

"Can we please have some stringent rules on what is being shown on tv in form of news and debates by so called news channel. They are worst than some pathetic tv shows.#NewsKiMaut.Please show some sensibility and empathy to the person who died and to his family esp the daughters."

Truly the media is losing its identity by sensationalising the news of the death of such a renowned and respected celebrity. These few media houses have certainly killed the ethics of journalism by promoting this kind of behaviour. Stay tuned for more updates.
