At a recent press conference held in Mumbai, director SS Rajamouli opened up about the upcoming sequel and his plans to develop ‘Baahubali’ as a franchise

The trailer of the much-awaited 2017 film, ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ has opened to a fantastic response from the audience. Talking about the audience’s response at the trailer launch event today in Mumbai, the director SS Rajamouli said that he was glad that trailer has been receiving so much love from all over the country.

During the event, Rajamouli spoke about turning ‘Baahubali’ into a movie franchise. The director said, “Baahubali is going to be a franchise. But Baahubali, the film will only be part one and two. Don’t want to kill a golden goose just because I want to make money. Just because we have a market, I don’t want to sell the film’s soul.”

When asked if Rajamouli made any changes to the script of the sequel owing to the massive success of ‘Baahubali’, the director quipped, “The film is a continuation of the first film. I have just ‘upped’ the effects and action sequences, the story is not re-touched.” To give the audience a recap of what happened in the first part, producer Anil Thadani said, “We are releasing Baahubali again one or two weeks before releasing Baahubali 2, so people can understand the story well.”

Talking about the grand and awe-inspiring introduction scene on the elephant, Rajamouli expounded, “The kind of goosebumps the shivalinga scene had given in the first film, I wanted that kind of reaction in the second film too, hence the introduction scene on an elephant.”

While the film is releasing during the much-dreaded IPL season, the director is sure that the film will make profits at the box-office. “The first film didn’t make money. Only the presenter, Johar, has made money. But the second film will make a lot of money!” added Rajamouli.

Releasing on April 28, the film has two weeks of free run after release. Crediting the producers and presenters for the selection of the release date Rajamouli said, “It is the achievement and success of the first film that we got not just a single release, but also a two-week free run. Karan and Anil have planned it well.”

When asked the much-anticipated question, ‘katappa ne bahubaali ko kyon maara?’, Karan Johar concluded the conference saying, “The question everyone wants an answer to is why katappa killed Baahubali, but unfortunately we’ll only know that when the film hits theatres.”
