On Friday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea seeking a stay on the release of the upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, 'Padmavati'. The Supreme Court highlighted the fact that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) considers all aspects before granting a certificate to any film.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud decided that there were enough guidelines to be followed by the CBFC to grant certification to a film before its release. The bench was hearing the plea filed by members of a political party. The members requested for the set up of a committee of eminent historians to check the veracity of the script to prevent any inaccuracy in the portrayal of Rani Padmavati.

The petitioners had also sought a stay on the release of the film till all such alleged historical inaccuracies in the film had been corrected by the producer and the director. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali the film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The film is slated to release on December 1.
