The black gowns seen on the red carpet at the Golden Globes had meaningful significance

Traditionally, a red carpet is a frothy celebration of fashion, even trends sometimes. However, the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2018 saw a slightly different approach this year. In the era of #MeToo and #TimesUp, celebrities unanimously decided to go with black to make their appearances at the award function. Why, do you ask?

Celebrities, in advance, had declared that they would wear the dark hue to convey their support for people who have reported abuse in terms of sexual harassment and assault. Last year saw many entertainers come out and speak about the issue prevalent in the industry and supporting them, many women decided to go with black in solidarity. Even a few men decided to work all-black tuxedos to support the cause and some even wore pins! The 'Times Up' initiative which aims at fighting sexual harassment in and outside of Hollywood, also called on women to wear black on the red carpet.

Several actresses even opened up about why they chose to support the #TimesUp movement. “It’s our job right now, the time is now for us to do the work that will make women and all people more safe and more equal in their workplaces and in their lives,” said America Ferrera. Meryl Streep said, "We feel sort of emboldened in this particular moment to stand together in a thick black line dividing then from now." Eva Longoria, who was seen in a black gown featuring a daring neckline, said, "We're here to say 'Time's Up' to the imbalance of power."
