On Saturday night, the Trudeaus arrived in Delhi and the first thing they did after they landed in Delhi was to bow and say namaste. Justin Trudeau, Canadian Prime Minister is on an eight-day visit to India. This is his first ever visit to the country after assuming office in 2015. Trudeau is to meet with Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh during the week-long visit and a source familiar with the Canadian side said that “uncertainties prevail” on this. The Canadian leader’s problems with the Punjab Chief Minister stems from the latter are criticism of alleged pro-Khalistan sentiments of Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan.

Trudeau however, intends to deepen ties as much with New Delhi as with Indians in Canada. They later visited Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura. Today will be the third day of his visit, Mr. Trudeau and his family arrived in Gujarat. The family visited Sabarmati Ashram. Justin Trudeau along with his wife and children were dressed in traditional Indian attire, kurta, and Punjabi suit. The Ashram authorities gifted Bapu's books to Trudeau's children.

Atul Pandya, director of Sabarmati Ashram said, “Since the Canadian PM will be visiting the Ashram with his children, we will be presenting books on Bapu that are specifically made for children. They include The Story of Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi by Mrinalini Sarabhai and Bapu - Part I & II. We will also be presenting them with a mug with RK Laxman's cartoon on it.”

Canadian PM said, “Sabarmati Ashram a beautiful place of peace, humility, and truth, which is as needed today as it ever was.” The family is all set to visit the Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar.
