Since the time Kareena Kapoor Khan announced her pregnancy earlier this year, the nation had been waiting with bated breath for the arrival of the little Nawab. Yesterday morning the Begum gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and Saif broke the news, “We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son: Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on the 20th of December 2016.”

It is not surprising that the news was followed by waves of messages on social media. While some messages were congratulatory, it seems like many people did not like the name of the baby. Earlier when Bebo had appeared on Neha Dhupia’s chat show ‘NoFilterNeha’, Neha had asked her if she had decided the name of the baby already. To this Kareena had said, “Saif is a historian and would want a traditional old school name.”

Indeed, the name Taimur has its roots in the Mughal history. It is derived from Timur, the name of the founder of the Timurid Empire who had invaded and captured Delhi, leaving it in ruins later. He had even executed 100,000 captives from the battle and Delhi couldn’t recover from the loss for about a century.

It seems like this connection of the baby’s name with the Turco-Mongol conqueror didn’t go down well with people. Within two hours of the baby’s birth, Taimur Ali Khan was trending and people were criticising, what they feel is a questionable choice of name.
