Varun Dhawan replaces Ranveer Singh in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy!

Ranveer was to play the role of a rapper in Zoya Akhtar’s next, ‘Gully Boy’, which will be focused on the lives of street rappers from the chawls of Mumbai. However, due to a clash of dates between Zoya’s film and YRF’S next which is a romantic drama, Ranveer had to opt out of ‘Gully Boys’, as reported by a leading tabloid.
If reports are to be believed, the makers are now approaching Varun Dhawan to play Ranveer’s part. A source close to the film said, “Ranveer loved the subject, but finally had to let it go. He tried his best to work out the dates for Zoya’s film for the last three months, but Shimit Amin’s romantic drama produced by YRF begins shooting next year and is a romantic drama. The female lead of the film is a newcomer.”
Talking about Ranveer choosing YRF over Zoya, the source said, “Ranveer’s first loyalty is with YRF, hence when it was obvious he had to choose between Zoya and Shimit, he opted for his mentor Aditya Chopra’s production. Varun has liked Zoya’s story and is trying to work out his dates for the film, which starts next year."
