We always knew that Kanye West had great taste, didn't we? The rapper/singer didn't just pick one of America's most fashionable women to be his wife but his brand, Yeezy boasts of great collections too! Well, today, we hear that Off-White founder and creator, Virgil Abloh, who also happens to be Kanye West’s confidante and longtime creative director for his brand has been chosen to be the new artistic director of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton. To be appointed a director for such an influential European house is indeed a prestigious position.

Virgil becomes Louis Vuitton’s first ever African-American artistic director. Abloh said, “I feel elated. This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.” Virgil has plans of relocating his family to Paris to take the job at the largest brand of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton; the world’s largest group.

Kim Jones' departure from the luxury brand was quite emotional and speculations were rife as to who his successor will be. It was only last week that it was announced that Kim Jones would become the men’s wear designer at Christian Dior replacing Kris van Assche. “Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment,” said Michael Burke, chief executive of Louis Vuitton.

The 37-year-old Ghanaian-American who was raised in Illinois and is majorly known for blending street style with high-end couture. He has previously worked with famous brands like Nike, Moncler, Jimmy Choo. He will, however, continue to run Off-White. On this, he said, “It is for the 17-year-old version of myself, whereas Vuitton is for the 37-year-old I am today.”
He will showcase his first collection for Louis Vuitton at the Paris Men’s Fashion week in June.
