Lakme Fashion Week: Day 1 gets off to a great start

The Lakme Fashion Week was off to a great start with a number of designers presenting their fabulous work on the ramp. Take a look-see at them below.



Left to right: INIFD presents #GenNext designer Anurag Gupta’s collection inspired by Maurits Cornelis Escher’s day and night artwork represented metamorphic change through silhouette, change of form, colour, motif, fabric and dyes used. INIFD presents #GenNext featuring Jajaabor by Kanika Sachdeva’s ‘The Artful Lodger’ was inspired by various homestay stories from around the world. The collection is suitable for travels and showcases prints that reflect silhouettes of row houses. INIFD presents #GenNext featuring Yavi by Yadvi Agarwal’s collection where art meets fashion formed a new aesthetic in worn impressionism. Their hand-painted separates, printed silks and impressionist embroidery certainly grabbed eyeballs.



431-88 by Shweta Kapur’s ‘Collection 12’ was geared towards the spirit of being on the road. Her collection sported sombre hues, flowing silk folds, breezy cottons and technicolour bursts of embroidery inspired by the Great Barrier Reef.



Urvashi Joneja’s collection ‘Away’ was inspired by the imagery of flying away, and breaking through the glass ceiling. Graphics, meticulous pleating and raised textures came together with a gorgeous colour palette to complete her collection.



The ‘Bye Felicia’ collection by Chola dismissed the irrelevant and used the colour grey to represent the strength of coming out and being yourself. It reflected how Drag can be a creative outlet, and a way to make cultural statements.



For W/F’18 Amrich: digs deep into their understanding of traditions and cultures to draw inspiration for a collection of chic separates comprising of exquisite hand-made textiles.



Vrisa by Rahul N Shikha’s W/F’18 collection ‘Bukhara’ is a story of many hands that fill strong colors in Indian textiles demonstrated through delicate hand embroideries and comfortable silhouettes.



Left to right: Elle Graduates presents Untitled Co. by Rinzin Lama’s indie W/F’18 collection of separates, handwoven in silk organza and cotton, accented with stand-out textile art and delicate embroidery. Elle Graduates presents Divya Sheth’s W/F’18 collection ‘Shizen’ which means nature in Japanese. Taking inspiration from kimonos, the silhouettes are a combination of kurta & kimono, emphasising the desire to bridge Indian craft and Japanese aesthetic. Elle Graduates presents Studio Metallurgy’s W/F’18 collection that draws inspiration from industrial design which is synonymous with precision and accuracy, sharp finishes and clean lines.
