This is the right way to layer your face makeup

We tend to get confused about layering our makeup; we do not know the right steps to layer our makeup. From not knowing when to put concealer, to messing up one’s lip-blush combination, we tend to get it wrong a lot more often than we realise. Now we have decoded the right steps to apply your makeup. Check them out.

Eyeshadow should be the first thing you apply
We should apply the eye shadow first because shaping your eye makeup and cleaning out the corners after blending the shadow, should be done when there is no product on the rest of the face. That way, you can wipe off the excess bits and keep the look clean. Another reason eyeshadow comes first, is that powder eyeshadows lead to a lot of fallout, which needs to be cleaned from under your eyes. If you try to clean once your based is already on, the area will get ashy and muddy.

Prime your skin next
Primer, which is essential to fill up pores and give makeup something to bind itself to, is the first step to doing your base makeup. Let this sit on your face and dry before moving on to the next step.

Foundation should come right after that
Again, contrary to popular belief, the foundation comes before concealer. Apply this in the centre of your face, but keep it very light on the tip of your nose, in order to avoid your base from looking cakey. Blend it outwards towards your ears, and keep it as sparse as possible around your jaw.

Conceal only the parts not covered by the foundation
The reason we apply concealer after the foundation is because the reversal of methods would result in the foundation dissolving concealer in itself, and dragging it away while being blended. If we end up moving the concealer away from what it should be hiding, there’s no point even applying it.

Use a powder contour after this
All your sculpting and shading can be completed once your base is in place. However, use a powder contour or bronzer for this. This is because cream contours, despite being easy to handle, can move around your foundation when you’re trying to blend them and expose blemishes.

Apply mascara and brow gel
Mascara and brow gel are basics which you should never skip, in order to give definition to your eyelashes. Mascara helps open up your eyes, and brow gel helps tame and neaten your brows.

Apply your lipstick now
The reason lipstick should come next is in order to see how much colour your look needs on the lips after all the basics are applied. However, it still comes before blush because you are supposed to pick blush according to your lip colour

The blush should be applied after the lipstick
Depending on how much colour you need, choose a shade of blush. In order to make the entire look come together seamlessly, the shade of lipstick and blush should be complementary. This is probably why so many French beauty icons swear by using their lipstick as blush!

Highlight after that
The highlighter is one item that can be applied at different points in your makeup, depending on the look you’re going for. If you want a natural, lit-from-within glow, apply highlighter before doing your base. If you want a sultry, in-your-face glow, highlight at the end, for maximum impact.

The eyeliner comes after this
Actually, eyeliner is not necessary for every makeup look. If you have to apply it, it should be free of eyeshadow fallout, loose powder, and highlighter dust. So, apply it at the very end.
