Waist training has been brought into the limelight in the recent years, thanks to celebrities who have taken the lead in glamorizing the whole concept. Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner, who are known for their curvy frame and slender waist, have used their power over social media to promote the practice even more.

However, while it may look all desirable and tempting from the outside, waist training has its own set of drawbacks. Here are some facts you must consider in case you are thinking of waist training:

1. Alteration of the natural skeletal structure

The rib cage protects the lungs and keeps them safe from unnessecary contraction or a sudden blow. However, corsets firmly bind on the abdomen, crushing in the rib cage against each other and causing damage to the lungs.

2. Obstruction in natural breathing

Imagine having to breathe with your ribs crushed against your lungs. It almost feels like you are being suffocated. And if you feel you can achieve the kind of results the Kardashians flaunt by going easy on the corset fastenings, you are wrong. The kind of unnatural vital stats you see on the internet can only be achieved if you are ready to nearly choke yourself.

3. Acid Reflux

When the stomach’s acid moves up it causes an uneasy burning sensation and is extremely painful. People suffering from acid reflux have shared their painful stories of extreme discomfort. Corsets compress the body’s mid-section and further press the stomach in, increasing chances of heartburn and indigestion. This may cause acid reflux and cause long-term damage by eroding the walls of the esophagus.

4. Bruising and Numbness

In the quest for the perfect hourglass figure, women who waist train have been left with deep bruises that are painful and take a fairly long time to recover. Waist trainers further put unnatural pressure on blood vessels, tampering the natural blood circulation in the body and resulting in numbness of the entire mid section and the area around it.

5.Starvation

Once the stomach has been reduced to the size of a tennis ball, you can’t expect to eat even the minimum amount of food you need for proper nourishment of your body. Although one can eat after removing it, it leaves a highly nauseating feeling in the brain, often casing people to throw up.
