10 foods that are staining your teeth

While a set of white sparkling teeth inject confidence in one’s personality, stained teeth cause it to take a plunge. Not only is it embarrassing, but yellow teeth are often regarded as a sign of bad oral health. Here’s a list of 10 foods that are causing your teeth to stain:



1.Coffee

Can’t live without coffee? Well, you better thing twice before ingraining that thought in your impressionable brain. While milk coffee still slows down the staining process, expresso and black coffee can cause absolute destruction to your white teeth.



2.Curry sauces

Love pasta and dishes prepared with yummy curry sauces? Well, your teeth don’t! Most of them include spices and specially turmeric which will sure lend you a bit of its yellow colour you won’t be very happy to acquire.



3.Beetroot

Ever touched a beet with your bare hands? If you have than you know I am talking about the pink colour that it leaves behind. What’s worse, the colour I adamant and doesn’t really go away with soap and water and instead takes its own sweet time to wear off. You sure don’t want something like that on your teeth.



4.Sugary treats

Got a sweet tooth? Too bad. Sugar turns acidic in the mouth and the longer you chew on these candies, the more damage they do to your teeth. In case you likecolourful sugar candies, the color is absorbed by your teeth adding colour to them. Think of it, you can clearly see the stain it leaves on your tongue, that’s exactly what it does to your teeth as well.



5.Black tea

Thinking you can simply switch too tea since coffee stains your teeth? Too bad, tea is just as bad for your teeth as coffee. Tea contains tannins, which stain the teeth. You can switch to herbal teas or green tea, which have more health benefits than black tea anyway. If you must have your cuppa, try adding milk to your tea to reduce its harmful effect o the colour of your teeth.



6.Red Wine

This one has the capacity to break hearts, isn’t it? It is not a bug secret though. Wine stains are one of the worst and most adamant ones. One splash and on your dress and it might be the last time you would be wearing that expensive outfit. The effect of wine is quite similar on teeth. They leave stains that would start noticing in the long run and probably regret.



7.Fruit juices

While they possess nutrition and supplement the body with the required vitamins and minerals, fruit juices are highly acidic, which means they wear down the enamel on your teeth, leaving them susceptible to absorbing colors from your foods and drinks, including juices such as cranberry juice, orange juice, and tomato juice.



8. Aerated drinks and sodas

Teeth’s staining isn’t the only reason why one should stay away from aerated drinks and sodas, as they are highly unhealthy junk drinks. However, they have quite a similar impact on teeth as sugar has. The sugar in these drinks turns acidic in your mouth, and it quickly wears away the enamel, and then your teeth absorb the color from these drinks. This also applies to some of those brightly colored, sugar-filled sports drinks that you might feel are unavoidable in case you are into sports. Avoid these as much as possible, for your health’s sake and for the sake of your teeth.



9.Sauces and vinegar

Chilli sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegars etc., all are terrible for your teeth as they cause deep staining.



10.Vegetables

Well, here’s an excuse to run away from healthy leafy vegetables! Surprising but true, although some bright coloured vegetables are highly nutritious and recommended, they do cause teeth staining.



Here’s a tip, in case your are consuming that is staining your teeth, brush your teeth properly post the meal so as to not let the colour get absorbed in them.
